Woodson Re-elected to Co-Chair Education Oversight Knoxville, Tenn. – Sen. Jamie Woodson (R-Knoxville) was re-elected
co-chairman of the Select Oversight Committee on Education on Monday,
September 17th. Rep. Les Winningham (D-Huntsville) will continue to serve as “I am truly honored to serve as co-chairman of this committee, and I appreciate the confidence that my colleagues have shown me by electing me to this position,” said Woodson. “We have a number of topics to consider this year including using excess lottery funds for K-12 capital outlay projects, incentive programs to increase student achievement and professional opportunities for our teachers in public schools. I am excited by this opportunity and look forward to addressing these, along with many other issues.” The Select Oversight Committee on Education was created by statue in 1984 during the Special Session on Education. The committee meets periodically and monitors issues and bills relevant to education. It also is responsible for reviewing reports from several educational institutions on various programs. The committee is comprised of nine senators and nine representatives appointed by the respective speakers of each house for a term of two years. Woodson is currently serving her first term as a State Senator after serving
three terms in the state House of Representatives. She is also the Chairman of
the Senate Education Committee; and serves on the Senate Judiciary ### |
