Senator Woodson presented PTA’s Life Achievement Award (NASHVILLE, TN), February 19, 2008 – State Senator Jamie Woodson (R-Knoxville) has been presented with the “Life Achievement Award” by the Tennessee Parent Teacher Association (PTA). Woodson was presented with the honor at a recent PTA Roundtable event at Pond Gap School in Knoxville. “I am humbled and honored to receive this award from this outstanding organization,” said Woodson. “I am very thankful to be a part of Tennessee’s continued quest to improve the quality of education for children in our great state.” The Life Achievement Award is given “in recognition of faithful and unselfish service on behalf of children and youth,” according to Cindy Daring, President of the Tennessee PTA. The group provides a scholarship fund through receipts from the award providing financial assistance to deserving students preparing to teach or work in a child-related career in Tennessee. Woodson is Chairman of the Senate Education Committee. She also led the efforts to reform Tennessee’s Basic Education Program, arguing for improvements to its antiquated funding formula. The BEP was later revised through a bipartisan reform effort and signed into law last year. ### |
