Norris to Address Crime Fighting and Prevention at Public Forum

NASHVILLE, Tenn. --- State Senate Majority Leader Mark Norris (R-Collierville) will join other elected and law enforcement officials in a town hall panel discussion on the prevention and reduction of crime in Shelby County.  Hadassah will sponsor a “Public Forum on Legislative Issues to Combat Crime” on Monday, August 27, at 7:00p.m. at the Memphis Jewish Community Center located at 6560 Poplar Avenue.

Each panelist will share their role in the anti-crime efforts of the area as well as their hopes and goals for the future of crime prevention.  Panelists will also take questions from the audience.  Along with Norris, the panel is expected to include Congressman Steve Cohen, State Senator Beverly Marrero, Judge Lee Coffee, and Sheriff Mark Luttrell.   WMC-TV’s Joe Birch will serve as moderator.

“I welcome the opportunity to hear about this issue from fellow West Tennesseans.  It is the people’s concern and cooperation that makes crime truly combatable,” said Norris of the invitation.  This panel discussion comes less than a month after the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police honored Senator Norris for his anti-crime efforts, including the “Crooks with Guns” bill which adds up to 10 years in prison for felons possessing or using a firearm during the commission or attempt of a violent crime.

In addition to Shelby County, Senator Norris represents the West Tennessee Counties of Tipton, Lauderdale, and Dyer.
