McNally open government bill heads to Senate floor for final approval (NASHVILLE, TN, April 24, 2008) -- The Senate Finance committee voted this week to approve major legislation opening records in Tennessee. The bill, SB 3280, is the result of the work of a study committee, chaired by Senator Randy McNally (R-Oak Ridge). “This bill is the result of two years of study and hours of testimony,” said Senator McNally, who was Chairman of the Special Committee. “The end result comes from an agreement with open government groups and local government representatives. I particularly look forward to having the resource of an open government counsel as provided in the bill.” Key provisions in the bill are:
“This legislation will go far in helping citizens access government records,” McNally added. “I am pleased that we have made it through the committee process and that our next step is final consideration on the Senate floor.” The bill is scheduled to be heard in the Senate on Tuesday. Serving his sixth term in the state Senate, McNally serves as Chairman of the Senate Finance, Ways and Means Committee. ### |
