Crowe Announces Sales Tax Holidays

Nashville, Tenn.State Sen. Rusty Crowe (R-Johnson City) announced this week that Tennesseans will be allowed to retain more of their hard earned money during a "sales tax holiday," April 27-29, 2007. Consumers in Tennessee may make tax-free purchases during this special one-time period in April. The next sales tax holiday will occur August 3-5, 2007.

Sen. Crowe applauded the idea of expanding the sales tax holiday to include an additional weekend.  "For years, the state has over-collected in taxes. It is time that the Tennessee relinquish some of this revenue to hardworking citizens."

“During the sales tax holidays, consumers may purchase clothing, recreational equipment, school supplies and computers without sales tax,” continued Crowe.

Retailers and consumers may find further information, including a retailer's guide, fact sheets on clothing, computers and school supplies, and answers to frequently asked questions on the Department of Revenue website at www.tntaxholiday.com.

Shoppers will find the same tax exempt items available during both the April and August holidays..

More information is available from salestax.holiday@state.tn.us or call (800) 342-1003 from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. EDT.
