Burchett Announces Grants for the Arts
Over $500,000 Awarded to KnoxCounty Organizations in the Seventh Senatorial District
Nashville, Tenn. – Sen. Tim Burchett (R-Knoxville) along with the Tennessee Arts Commission are proud to announce the grant recipients for the upcoming fiscal year in the seventh senatorial district.
“Preserving the arts are an important aspect of enhancing the quality of life in our community,” said Burchett. “The Arts Commission’s matching grants are made possible through an appropriation of state funds by the legislature, federal dollars from the National Endowment of the Arts and by Tennesseans who purchase specialty and collegiate license plates.”
Knox County organizations receiving awards are the African American Appalachian Arts, Inc., $5,000; Carpetbag Theatre, Inc., $17,460; Joy of Music Youth Music School, $13,950; Knoxville Symphony Society, $67,590; Knoxville Museum of Art, $59,560; TN Stage Company, $9,670; Arts & Culture Alliance of Greater Knoxville, $193,954; Jubilee Community Arts, $19,910; TN Art Education Association, $3,500; Bijou Theatre Center, $4,400; Circle Modern Dance, $6,000; TN Theatre Association, $5,400; Knoxville Choral Society, $3,900; Knox County Public Library $4,950; Friends of the Knox County Public Library, $4,000; East Tennessee Community Design Center, $14,270; Cumberland Communities Communications Corporation, $19,000; and Knoxville Opera, $52,000.
“This state is indeed fortunate to have elected leaders who support the work of the Tennessee Arts Commission in building better communities through the arts,” said Ed Gerace, incoming Chairman of the Tennessee Arts Commission. “We are pleased with the amount of funding available for our grantees, and we are so grateful to Governor Bredesen and the General Assembly for recognizing the importance of the arts to all Tennesseans.”
