Music Legend Cropper Testifies Before Education Committee Nashville, Tenn. – Grammy award winning artist Steve Cropper appeared before the Senate Education Committee Wednesday to testify on the effects of music file sharing in Tennessee collegiate campuses regarding the recording industry. “Steve Cropper is a Tennessee Treasure,” commented State Sen. Tim Burchett (R-Knoxville), who was instrumental in bringing Cropper to the committee. “The fact that he has taken the time to meet with us shows the importance of this issue.” In 2006, Burchett sponsored SJR 1020 along with Sen. Jamie Woodson (R-Knoxville) and former Sen. Steve Cohen (D-Memphis) which requested that “administrators of state-sponsored or state-owned networks, including administrators of public colleges and universities within Tennessee, explore the availability of network technology, legitimate online services, and other solutions to address the risks and detrimental effects of certain online peer-to-peer file-sharing services.” “This is an important issue that is often taken lightly,” Burchett said. “We want to make sure the kids who attend our public universities and colleges respect intellectual property-especially music.” ### |
