Two Sumner County Schools are recognized as “Exceptional Schools” (NASHVILLE, TN, May 6, 2008) – State Senator Diane Black (R-Gallatin) announced today that two Title I Sumner County Schools have been recognized for performing among the top 10 percent in the state in reading/language arts and math. Westmoreland Elementary and Bethpage Elementary are the 2008 recipients of Title I Academic Achievement Awards for exceptional academic performance and for meeting the adequate yearly progress goals of No Child Left Behind for two consecutive years. “This is a wonderful recognition of excellence in academic achievement for these two schools,” said Senator Black. “I congratulate our students, teachers and administrative staff for all their hard work.” Only 27 Tennessee schools performed in the top 10 percent. Title I is a designation given to schools where a large number or percentage of students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. This award program is based on performance on the annual Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP). “We have some of the most dedicated teachers in Tennessee in Sumner County,” Black added. “I know we will continue to see great success from these schools in the future.” ### |
