(NASHVILLE, TN), March 1, 2012 -- The Tennessee State Senate honored Joan Cronan today as Senator Becky Duncan Massey (R-Knoxville) presented the retiring University of Tennessee (UTK)Athletic Director with a resolution heralding her achievements.  Cronan was honored as the State Senate met on Thursday morning in Nashville.
 
“Joan leaves behind an indelible legacy, which not only includes 28 years of winning records, but also includes the utmost professionalism, ability, and integrity that she has demonstrated during her career at the University of Tennessee,” said Senator Massey.  “This resolution is one way to pay tribute to her for her service to the University, our community and state.”
 
The resolution said “Cronan established a reputation for excellence during her two-year  coaching stint at Tennessee, leading the women’s basketball team to an alternate berth in the first-ever National Invitational Collegiate Basketball Tournament,” before taking the helm at UTK’s Women’s Athletic Department.”  Under her watch, the Lady Vols have garnered a reputation as one of the most visible and respected programs throughout the nation.
 
The resolution also pays tribute to Cronan for her efforts as a dedicated civic leader.  Cronan has been active in numerous civic organizations in Knoxville, including the United Way Fund Drive, Leadership Knoxville Board, the Executive Women’s Association, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the YMCA.
 
“Joan has continuously given back to the community despite a very busy schedule,” added Massey.  “I am very pleased we could give something back to her in acknowledging her achievements through passage of this resolution.”

(January 6, 2011, NASHVILLE) –  Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey today announced that Senator Becky Massey (R – Knoxville) will serve the Senate as a member of the Government Operations Committee, the Transportation and Safety Committee and the Health and Welfare Committee in the upcoming session of the General Assembly. Sen. Massey won a special election on Nov. 8 to represent District 6 and is the newest member of the state Senate.

“Sen. Massey is a strong, conservative addition to the Senate,” said Lt. Governor Ramsey. “Her life experience has prepared her well to serve the people of the Tennessee in a myriad of different ways. She will be a champion of good government here in the Senate.”

“I’m very eager to get to work serving the State of Tennessee on these very important committees,” said Sen. Massey. “These assignments will allow me use my experience in the private sector to keep our government small and our people safe and healthy. I’m humbled that Lt. Governor Ramsey has shown such confidence in me.”

A graduate of the University of Tennessee, Massey is currently the Executive Director of the Sertoma Center. The center serves over 100 adults with intellectual disabilities by providing vocational training, part-time employment, mental health support, life skills and residential services.

She resides in Knoxville with her husband, Morton. They have two adult daughters Courtney and Kristen.
